At the invitation of the Shipston Branch Labour Party, Richard Blair, son of the writer George Orwell (real name Eric Blair) will be coming to Shipston to give an illustrated talk on MY LIFE AND TIMES WITH MY FATHER: GEORGE ORWELL. As this talk is likely to be of wider interest, the branch is inviting members and supporters with family and friends to join the event. The talk is taking place on Tuesday 11th October at 7.00 pm in the hall of Shipston High School. Doors will open at 6.30 pm when light refreshments will be available before the 7.00 pm start. The event will end by 9.00 pm. There is plenty of free parking at the venue. George Orwell needs no introduction. Famous for his masterpieces including Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four as well as his non-fiction works, Down and Out in Paris and London and The Road to Wigan Pier, his writing is as relevant today as it has ever been. George Orwell’s son, Richard Blair, was born in London in 1944 and adopted by Eileen and Eric (George Orwell) Blair. He is now a Trustee of the Orwell Foundation and Trustee and Patron of the Orwell Society. If you would like to join us, please note that we are limiting numbers so that, if they wish to, members of the audience can maintain social distancing. Early booking is therefore advised especially as later on, if there is capacity, we will be opening up the event to the general public. Admission is by ticket only.
