National Policy Forum (Justice and Home Affairs) event - Leeds

  • 6 June 2019 17:00 - 19:00
  • Swarthmore Education Centre, Woodhouse Square, Leeds LS3 1AD, UK

As part of the 2019 National Policy Forum, the Justice and Home Affairs Commission is holding a members’ event in Leeds on the consultation topic of “Building an Effective Criminal Justice System.” Shadow Justice Secretary Richard Burgon MP, and the JHA Commission, would like to hear from members about how we can ensure the criminal justice retains the confidence of victims of crime and keeps people safe, as well as addressing the underlying causes of offending to give people the best chance of rehabilitation We would are particularly keen to hear your ideas about: • How to ensure public bodies work together to address offending behaviour at an early stage before things become too serious. • How sentencing can be reformed to ensure it reduces the likelihood of reoffending, rather than simply locking low-level offenders up for very short periods of time in unsuitable conditions • How to reinvigorate confidence in community-based sentences, as well as how to engender a greater degree of cross-agency cooperation between the public bodies that work with offenders
