This relaxed event is the ideal introduction for any woman or non-binary person thinking of becoming a councillor. Our awesome speakers - including past and present councillors - will speak about their experiences of running for councillor, as well as what doing the job involves. Find out: - Why running for council is so valuable, particularly as a woman - How to get nominated, run, and get elected - What the day-to-day reality of being a councillor is like - How to make councillor life work around your career, taking care of dependants, and any other responsibilities All women and non-binary people Labour Party members of Lewisham East CLP are welcome. Good to know: - You are welcome to bring children, though we won't have official childcare facilities - The event is free - there will be a suggested voluntary donation of £5 - Tea, coffee and other refreshments will be available - The event is open to everyone, whatever your level of experience or involvement in the Labour Party - The venue is wheelchair accessible - if you have other accessibility requirements, please email Rosamund (rosamundlcox@gmail.com) How to get there: GCC is well served by local buses (the 124 stops outside, the 284 stops on Verdant Lane). Grove Park and Bellingham stations are a 20 minute walk from the centre. There is free on-street parking in the local roads.
